    Den Blätterteig ausrollen und die Aprikosenkonfitüre gleichmäßig darauf verstreichen.

    Den Teig einmal längs zusammenklappen.

    In etwa 5 cm (2 inches) breite Streifen schneiden.

    Jeden Streifen längs in 3 schmale Streifen schneiden, dabei oben zusammenhängen lassen.

    Die drei Streifen zu einem Zopf flechten und die Enden nach unten einschlagen.

    Die Zöpfe auf ein mit Backpapier belegtes Blech setzen und mit etwas Milch bestreichen.

    Im vorgeheizten Ofen bei 180 °C (350 °F) etwa 20-25 Minuten goldbraun backen.

    Aus dem Ofen nehmen, kurz abkühlen lassen und mit Puderzucker bestäuben. Blättrig, buttrig und fein fruchtig - ein Gebäck, das aussieht wie aus der Pâtisserie, aber nur wenige einfache Handgriffe braucht.

Choose a firm, low-moisture preserve such as plum, raspberry or cherry, because runny jam leaks out along the cut strips while baking. Very chunky jams should be chopped or pressed through a sieve so the braids still fold cleanly.

Usually too much jam was spread on, or it was spread all the way to the edge of the dough. Use the 2 tbsp as a thin, even layer and leave a narrow border free so the folded edges can seal.
