Directions
-
1
Bring sugar and water to a boil and let it simmer gently for 8–10 minutes. Add lemon juice and let the syrup cool completely.

-
2
Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F), top and bottom heat.

-
3
Mix melted butter and sugar, then add milk and vanilla.

-
4
Add semolina and mix into a soft, moldable dough.

-
5
Weigh and take half of the dough and press it evenly into the pan using lightly oiled hands.

-
6
Spread the chopped walnuts evenly on top.

-
7
Do not add the remaining dough as one piece – instead place small portions evenly over the surface. Then, using lightly oiled hands, gently connect and smooth them into an even layer.

-
8
Score the surface into squares or diamonds.

-
9
Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden brown.

-
10
Let it rest for 10 minutes, then pour the cold syrup evenly over the hot dessert.

-
11
Let it soak for at least 2–3 hours so the syrup is fully absorbed.

-
12
Sprinkle with chopped walnuts. A dessert that perfectly belongs on any Bayram table – traditional, simple, and made to be enjoyed with family and tea.
