Ingredients
Directions
-
1
Preheat the oven to 175°C (top/bottom heat). Grease a 19 cm round cake pan and dust with flour.

-
2
Mix all filling ingredients until smooth and refrigerate.

-
3
Cream the butter and sugar together, then add the vanilla extract.

-
4
Mix the flour and baking powder in a separate bowl, then add to the butter-sugar mixture. Stir until a crumbly dough forms.

-
5
Add the milk and mix again until smooth.

-
6
Beat the egg whites with a pinch of salt until stiff peaks form, then gently fold them into the batter.

-
7
Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Fill a piping bag with the quark mixture and pipe stripes over the batter.

-
8
Use a skewer to drag lines through the batter alternately from top to bottom and bottom to top to create a swirl pattern.

-
9
Bake for 40 - 45 minutes until golden brown. Test with a toothpick—if it comes out clean, the cake is done.
-
10
Let the cake cool completely, then dust lightly with powdered sugar. If you often have leftover egg whites and don’t know what to do with them, this cake is a perfect way to put them to good use. Enjoy baking!
