Ingredients
- For the Dough
- For Brushing
Directions
-
1
Sift the flour into a large bowl and create a well in the middle. Add dry yeast and 30 g sugar into the well.

-
2
Gently warm the milk and pour it into the well. Let it sit until bubbles form in the yeast.

-
3
Add the egg and melted butter. Knead everything into a smooth dough.

-
4
Divide the dough in half. Mix cocoa powder and 20 g sugar into one half to create the chocolate dough.

-
5
Let both doughs rise, covered, in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.

-
6
Knead the doughs again.

-
7
Roll out the light dough into a rectangle (about 20 x 25 cm). Do the same with the dark dough.

-
8
Place the dark dough rectangle onto the light dough, leaving about one-third of the light dough free.

-
9
Fold the free third of the light dough over the dark dough rectangle and then fold again.

-
10
Roll out the dough into a rectangle (matching the size of the loaf pan). Roll up the resulting rectangle so that the light side is on the outside.

-
11
Place the rolled bread in the matching loaf pan and cut slanted lines with a knife to create the zebra pattern.

-
12
Let the bread rise, covered, for about 1 hour until it almost doubles in size.

-
13
Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.

-
14
Brush the bread with a mixture of egg yolk and milk.

-
15
Bake the Zebra Bread for about 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.
-
16
After baking, remove from the pan and let it cool covered with a cloth on a cake rack.
