Directions
- For Dough
-
1
Dissolve the dry yeast in lukewarm milk and let it sit until it froths. In a large bowl, mix the flour with sugar and a pinch of salt.

-
2
Add the melted butter and beaten egg to the flour, then add the yeast-milk mixture. Knead everything into a smooth dough. Add more flour or milk if needed to achieve the desired consistency.

-
3
Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, until it doubles in size.

-
4
For Custard Cream

-
5
Meanwhile, prepare the custard cream. Heat the milk in a saucepan until it simmers. In a bowl, whisk the egg yolks with sugar and cornstarch until the mixture is pale and creamy.

-
6
Slowly pour the warm milk into the egg mixture, stirring constantly to temper the eggs. Return the egg-milk mixture to the saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens.

-
7
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract or seeds. Let the custard cream cool.

-
8
Final Steps

-
9
Roll out the risen dough into a rectangle on a floured surface.

-
10
Spread the cooled custard cream evenly over the dough. Roll up the dough from the long side to form a long roll.

-
11
Cut the roll into slices about 2 cm thick, slightly flatten them and place the slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let the swirls rise again for another 15-20 minutes.

-
12
Preheat the oven to 180°C and bake the pudding swirls for about 15-20 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.

-
13
Dust with powdered sugar, if desired, and serve.
